ODROID-M1S with pre-installed Home Assistant

Home Assistant is already pre-installed with this offer. The ODROID-M1S with 4 GB of RAM and 64 GB eMMC provides you with a compact foundation for your smart home hub. A separate installation of Home Assistant is not necessary; you will perform the personal setup and integration of your devices yourself afterwards.

The Rockchip RK3566 combines four ARM Cortex-A55 cores with up to 1.8 GHz. Together with the LPDDR4 RAM and the soldered eMMC storage, the board is suitable as a space-saving server for automations and the central management of compatible smart home devices. Network connectivity is provided via Gigabit Ethernet.

The M1S is approximately 20% flatter and consumes about 20% less power compared to the ODROID-M1, according to the manufacturer. Two header strips with a total of 54 pins open up additional possibilities for your own hardware projects. This offer includes the version with headers as well as passive heat sinks, case, and power supply.

Functions and expansion options

Compact continuous operation: The passive cooling operates without a fan. The manufacturer states around 1.1 W in idle and 3.52 W under full CPU load; connected devices and software influence actual consumption.

Flexible memory expansion: In addition to the integrated 64 GB eMMC, there is a microSD slot and an M.2 connector for NVMe SSDs available. SATA M.2 SSDs are not supported.

Connections for your own projects: USB, UART, and the 40- and 14-pin headers provide connection options for peripherals. Depending on the pin assignment, GPIO, I²C, SPI, PWM, and ADC are available, among others.

Graphics and AI hardware: The Mali-G52-MP2 GPU and the integrated RKNN NPU are part of the board hardware. Their use requires appropriate software and drivers and is not a guaranteed function of the Home Assistant pre-installation.

FAQ - An alternative to Home Assistant Green

Is the ODROID-M1S an alternative to Home Assistant Green?
Yes. This offer comes with Home Assistant preinstalled. Together with the case, passive heatsink and EU power adapter, it provides a prepared foundation for your smart home hub. Connect the device to your network and begin your personal setup.
What does the M1S offer compared with Green?
With 64 GB of eMMC storage, the M1S provides twice the built-in storage of Green with 32 GB. It also offers an M.2 slot for an optional NVMe SSD and a USB 3.0 port. Its main advantages are storage capacity and expansion options. An NVMe SSD is not included.
Is the ODROID-M1S faster than Green?
Both use the Rockchip RK3566 with four Cortex-A55 cores running at up to 1.8 GHz. This M1S version and Green each have 4 GB of RAM. These specifications do not establish a significant speed advantage for typical Home Assistant tasks. The M1S primarily stands out through its additional hardware features.
Is the ODROID-M1S officially supported by Home Assistant?
Yes. Home Assistant OS officially supports the ODROID-M1S. A modified Green image or an unofficial workaround is not required.
Do I need to install Home Assistant myself?
No. Home Assistant is already preinstalled with this offer. You then complete your personal setup, create your user account and add your devices and integrations.
Can I reset or recover the ODROID-M1S?
Yes. If Home Assistant OS is working, you can reset user data and configuration through the HAOS system console without reinstalling the entire operating system. Reinstalling the operating system on the internal eMMC requires additional steps using USB mass-storage mode and a computer. With Home Assistant OS 13.1 or later, Green offers a simpler button-based reset with an internet connection; an SD-card procedure is available for older installations. Neither procedure is needed for normal initial setup because Home Assistant is preinstalled. A reset deletes your data: save a backup outside the device beforehand.
